On the 1st of February 2024, I had the privilege of attending a captivating talk with Sir Brandon Lewis, where he shared fascinating insights into his remarkable journey and experiences in the political arena. The discussion provided a deeper understanding of the complexities of parliamentary life, offering valuable lessons and reflections.
One particular aspect that resonated deeply with me was Sir Brandon Lewis's emphasis on the impact he made during his tenure as Lord Chancellor. He highlighted initiatives such as ending the bar strike and implementing extended tagging—a crucial scheme aimed at reducing reoffending and enhancing community safety. Sir Brandon shed light on seemingly overlooked yet impactful issues, illustrating challenges encountered in achieving political objectives, such as relocating a bus stop.
Throughout the talk, Sir Lewis's passion for his work became palpable. His genuine responses to inquiries, including insights on Immigration and its effects on UK Universities and the complex situation with regards to Rwanda, offered a well-rounded perspective on the challenges faced by the UK Government from various angles.
Following the enlightening talk, I had the privilege of joining Sir Brandon Lewis, the Vice-Chancellor, and friends for dinner. This intimate setting allowed for a more relaxing conversation, and through our dialogue, I gained much confidence in the possibility of persevering through hard decisions while staying focused on what's best for people as a whole. It was truly an invaluable experience.
Moreover, I must acknowledge the role of Buckingham University in shaping my academic journey. The challenging coursework at Buckingham University has been a cornerstone of my academic growth, encouraging us to think outside the box, develop innovative concepts, and refine them through one-on-one interactions with professors. Every day, as I open the door to the Franciscan Building, I am greeted by a sense of dedication from both students and professors alike. The faculty's unwavering commitment to our success motivates me, and I am inspired by the vibrant culture that surrounds me at Buckingham University. I consider myself truly blessed to be a part of this amazing academic community.
Additionally, serving as a student representative for the LLM cohort has enabled me to volunteer and help others in support of obtaining their dreams. It is a privilege to contribute to the success and well-being of my fellow students, and I am grateful for the opportunity to make a difference within our academic community.
